I am running for my dad in the 2024 Rotterdam Marathon
Updated 28 March
I am a few weeks out from the marathon. Training has been tough, and am currently battling achilles tendonitis. But my trainer and my fysio are helping me find a way, and I hope I can find the finish line. The marathon will be a battle, but nothing compared to the battle of fighting cancer. Warriors. Heroes. We use these terms to recognise the incredible fight that people with cancer somehow conjure up. And with each training run, with every sore muscle, I think about what a fighter my dad was. I miss him, so much. I continue to carry him in my heart as I train, and to remember the many families that are battling cancer.
Updated 3 December
On October 23, 2023, my dad suddenly and unexpectedly died from metastatic colon cancer. On Sunday the 22nd, we learned the terrible news that the cancer had taken over his lungs - and he had only hours left to live. He cried when he learned the news - making us promise to take care of my mom, his bride.
(American friends: if you struggle with the interface, you are welcome to VENMO (@drJTP) and I'll transfer to KWF and notify you).

My dad is my hero, always will be. He's been battling cancer for years, and is currently in the fight for his life.
I feel powerless. But as a scientist, I know that research is game-changing for people with cancer. That's where KWF comes in. Their global support for funding cancer research has changed the lives of so many, and I want to help.
I am raising funds to finance research to help people like my dad, who so desperately need it. And on April 14th, I will run for my dad and every cancer warrior.
Thank you for your support.
